Create your own comic hero. Join Milwaukee illustrator and award-winning children’s book artist Aaron Boyd for an evening of drawing, storytelling, and imagination at the Bronzeville Center for the Arts.
You’ll design a character, draw it from different angles, and tell its story in a one-page comic strip. All materials are provided. No experience needed.
This immersive workshop connects to Building Bronzeville, where archival copies of Echo Magazine show how cartoons and illustrations served as powerful tools for cultural representation and reclaiming Black visual narratives. Today, Black creators continue to place joy, humor, and heroism at the center of the page rather than the margins. Come add your own.
Spaces are strictly limited to ensure an intimate, high-impact learning environment. Space is limited, so secure your seat today!
Artist Bio Aaron Boyd
At the age of 5 I knew my calling was art. Inspired by artists I found in the pages of children’s books at my local library, by the age of 6 I knew what I would do with my art. Make children’s books. After graduating from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design I practiced my craft in children’s magazines and board games before illustrating my first picture book in 1999. To date my art has appeared in dozens of books and now I work to tell my whole story in word and brush. Having won many awards and honors over the years my greatest award is that I get to continue making books that inspire children and adults.
